Text macros are boilerplated text where you make a substitution based upon a list of presented alternatives.

The text macros are available within the consult editor from the macros tab.  You can search for a particular macro in the search fields.

Here's a short example:

Tonsils are reddened *with* exudates, and there is *some* pharyngeal injection.  There is *some* local lymphadenopathy, with *some* tenderness.  Temperature is slightly elevated at *nn*.*n* deg. C, and the tympanic membranes are *clear*.  There is no skin rash, and no meningism.

A rapid streptococcal test was *negative*.

The diagnosis is a presumed *viral* infection.

The * surrounding a word indicate that you can replace these with one or more from a list.  The choices are defined in Settings/Macros.

So, we have as options for *with* with, and without.

Choices have to be quoted if containing a space, and may also contain a macro.

Eg. *knee* could be defined as "*both* knee" and *both* can be defined as left, right, both.

As well as the macros defined in Settings/Macros, there are also some that relate to the patient and their vitals.  These include

  • *sex*
  • *age*
  • *title*
  • *fname*
  • *surname*
  • *occupation*
  • *medications*
  • *diagnoses*
  • *tempF* (Fahrenheit)
  • *tempC* (Celcius)
  • *o2*
  • *resps*
  • *bp*
  • *systolic*
  • *diastolic*
  • *waist* (cms)
  • *height* ( cms )
  • *heightins* (inches)
  • *weight* (kgs)
  • *weightlbs* (lbs)
  • *bmi*

More complex macros can be made by chaining to other macros.
