Changing the default Synapse ServerFrom $1Table of contentsNo headersThere is also a video available for this walk thru. The Synapse Client is set up by default to connect to our demo
server at www.compkarori.co.nz:8014 ( it used to be www.synapsedirect.com:8011). However, both this address, and
the user name ( which currently defaults to "Guest" ) can be altered to
another default.
If you were setting up synapse-server on the local lan, then you might use a local private network address such as 192.168.1.1:8099 instead of the www.synapsedirect.com:8099 example above. The same applies for a VPN. Finally,
if you are running Synapse Server and Client on the same PC ( not
recommended but for testing purposes you might want to do this ), you
can set up another environment variable named "synapse-local"
and give it the value "true". This will then give you the option to
login to the localhost ( this PC ), and then the option to connect
remotely. The localhost mode assumes a port of 8011. There is one other variables that you can create defaults for, and that is synapse-size, and you can choose 3, 4, or 5. This picks the default GUI size. However, with later versions of Synapse, GUI size of 3 will no longer produce a functional screen display.
